Somebody who probably came up with a lot of these quotes (lets just attribute it to Winston Churchill - you can always attribute some overused saying to Churchill) said that nobody ever went broke underestimating the American public. But this is really taking it too far.
I guess he was for staying the course until he was against it.
Wow…that’s just…wow.
I’m absolutely dumbfounded.
I can understand saying, “We have to adjust our tactics.” I can understand saying, “There’s only so much ’staying the course’ the American people will tolerate without some help from the Iraqis themselves.” But to say there was nothing when there certainly was something? This may be his, “I did not have sex with that woman.” moment.
“…Now watch this drive.”
Here’s a helpful Google search. Check out the results: Stay the Course
“…said that nobody ever went broke underestimating the American public.”
H. L. Mencken; it would be pretty odd of Churchill to insult the public of the country of his mother, which he spent much of his adult life seeking as an ally, sometimes desperately.
It was specifically “the taste of,” incidentally, although sometimes the wording is misstated, as is always the case with famous quotes.
